A bit about Maria
I am a Finnish artist and I work primarily with paint, pencil and photography.
I earned my MFA from Kingston University in 2015 and I have been exhibiting my work since 2012.
My current studio is located in Helsinki, Finland.
Art has always been a part of my life starting with going through piles and piles of kids coloring-and sketchbooks as a child to having my own studio space full of paint and all the artsy fiddly bits my heart desires.
My other great passion in life has been reading. Yes, I was the weird kid who spent recess sitting in the corner with her head in a book.
I have managed to combine these two passions by drawing inspiration from the limitless worlds introduced to me through books, and using it in my art.
Most of my work has elements of mythology and themes known from fantasy, but I also draw influence from science and political events (big fan of Neil deGrasse Tyson, Esko Valtaoja, Bill Bryson etc.)
So I guess my art is a bit of a combination of extremities.
Regardless, art is something that I cannot stop making.
I hope you enjoy my site and my art!
